Luxor -- Las Vegas, NV

One of the most unusual attractions in Las Vegas is the giant pyramid of the Las Vegas Luxor, one of the first themed resorts in the Vegas strip (opened in 1993). This slice of ancient Egyptian history really stands out – even in Las Vegas which is home to some of the most unique hotels in the world.

Las Vegas Luxor is located at the end of the strip nearest to the airport (McCarran LAS Airport). The Luxor is near to the Mandalay Bay resort and the Excalibur hotel (in fact there is a tram that connects the hotels), striking hotels in their own right, but the Luxor is strikingly different and a real engineering marvel. Once the tallest building on the strip, the Luxor has since been dwarfed by other mega resort hotels in the area.

Capable of accommodating over 4,400 guests, the Luxor Las Vegas has it’s rooms on the outer walls of the pyramid and instead of elevators the Luxor has “inclinators” which move up and down inside the pyramid at a 39-degree angle. Open hallways leading to the rooms on all floors overlook the vast atrium at the center of the pyramid, which at the time of writing, is still the largest in the world. In the evening the Luxor can be seen for miles around due to the huge light beam that shoots straight up from the top of the pyramid vertically into the night sky.

This unique Luxor charm also extends to the entertainment with a host of unusual and amazing acts.

Renowned TV illusionist Criss Angel records episodes of the TV series “Mindfreak” at the Luxor. The famous Fantasy seductive topless adult dance revue perform at the Luxor nightly with beautiful showgirls, live singers, comedy and cutting edge choreography. Another bizarre attraction at the Luxor is “Bodies… The Exhibition“. This show features whole body specimens and individual organs offering a unique view of the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems of the human body – It’s a sight you won’t ever forget! Last but not least, the prop comic Carrot Top (named “Entertainer of the Year”) wows the crowd at the Luxor 6 nights a week with his incredible brand of twisted humor and wacky inventions.

The Luxor has it’s own spa offering massages and body/beauty treatments, many swimming pools and hot tubs, nightclubs, 29 high-quality retail outlets, restaurants and of course the busy Luxor casino (this is Vegas after all!).

The Luxor Las Vegas is not just a wonderful place to stay, it’s a complete visually stunning spectacle offering the unique experience of ancient Egypt on the Las Vegas strip.

HUALAPAI INDIAN RESERVATION, AZ - MARCH 7: (E...

Over 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon every year and many of these vistors use Las Vegas as a base. Being just 180 miles from the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, Vegas is an ideal location for helicopter or light aircraft Grand Canyon tours. Some of the helicopter tours even allow you to explore the Grand Canyon on foot with an optional Canyon landing. Anyone spending time in Vegas should always set aside one day to see the Grand Canyon and take a break from the neon strip.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most breathtaking sights anyone will ever see in their lifetime. Seeing the Grand Canyon by air simply amplifies the experience. Many visitors are left speechless when first appreciate the raw beauty and the power of nature.

One of the best Grand Canyon flight tours is the tour with an option to land on a plateau in the Canyon which is about 3000 feet down. Once landed you can enjoy a champagne picnic, or for the more adventurous, you can climb down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon tour operators include Gray Line Las Vegas Sightseeing Tours, Key Tours Las Vegas, Las Vegas Grand Canyon Tours and Vegas Tours. Grand Canyon tours are not restricted to air tours of course, there are a myriad of options such as horse riding tours, climbing tours, rafting tours and even tours in Hummer vehicles. For these tours however, you
would need more than one day from Las Vegas. In fact for a full exploration of the Grand Canyon you should really schedule a seperate vacation.

if you prefer to create your own tour that’s easy, many people drive to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas every year. bear in mind however it will be a long day, as although Las Vegas is only 180 miles from the Grand Canyon by air, it’s around 280 miles by road! Travelling by car can work out a lot cheaper (especially if more than one person is travelling) than coach tours, and definitely cheaper than air tours. A one day self drive tour could be done for less than $200, whereas even the cheapest air tours start at around $500 and a coach tour is around $150 per person.

The bottom line is, even though Las Vegas does have an incredible amount of amenities, attractions and shows to keep everyone occupied, you haven’t lived unless you’ve seen the Grand Canyon (especially by air). The Grand Canyon is one of those wonders where once seen, never forgotten!
