MGM Grand - Las Vegas, Nevada DSCN4003

Las vegas has gone through a complete transformation over the last two decades, no longer the sleazy, seedy habitat of gamblers and all night partying. Vegas is now a resort well equipped for family vacations, with plenty of amenities including adventure parks, museums and natural attractions. Many visitors spend their complete vacations in Vegas without hitting the casino’s at all ( actually most will spend at least some time gambling if only to say they have gambled in vegas!)

However many hotels still cater for mainly singles or couples looking for a hedonistic break, so which hotels are particularly family friendly, especially when it comes to the hotel pools? The top 3 hotels for families are probably the Monte Carlo, MGM Grand and The Mirage.

The MGM Grand has an incredible pool complex that will be an instant hit with the whole family. An exotic paradise spread over 6 acres with lush flowers and greenery, 5 swimming pools, 3 whirlpools, bubbling fountains, a river, a small island and a shallow Lagoon with waterfall which makes a perfect wading pool for small children. Tubes and rafts are available for hire to allow you to float down the river. The pool is located through the promenade shopping complex and is just a short walk from the elevators.

The Monte Carlo pool is smaller than the Grand (but not small by any normal standard), but still offers 3 swimming pools, a whirlpool and a dedicated kids pool. The kiddie pool is fully enclosed with kids beach chairs. TOne of the swimming pools is a wave pool that has 3ft waves and is a fun experience for the whole family. The Lagoon pool is a quiet and relaxing pool with it’s own waterfall. There is also a 400 feet river ride with tube rental available inside their beach shop.

The Mirage has a series of pools inter-connected by bridges and lagoons with a series of cascading waterfalls in a lush, tropical environmet (unfortunately the waterslide at the Mirage has been closed down). The Mirage offers raft rental at good rates and complimentary life jackets for children.

Any of these hotels will allow the kids to have fun and the family to relax and cool off – in perfect safety and in beautiful surroundings. These pool complexes enable you to have a rest day after all the hustle and bustle of thrill rides and trips to major attractions and best of all, relaxing by the pool watching the kids playing in the waterfalls and waves is completely free!

Gambling in Las Vegas is a hugely enjoyable experience and any Vegas trip would be incomplete without spending at least one night in the Casino’s. However, it is important to follow a few simple rules to make sure you don’t lose your shirt and ruin the vacation! It is possible to enjoy many hours gambling in vegas without needing a lot of cash, or even to come out ahead! Check out some simple tips to follow for some of the more popular games below.

For sports fans what could be better than sitting in front of big screen TV’s all day and watching sports while getting free drinks? Welcome to sportsbook betting Vegas style! There is no mathematical advantage when betting on sports so “rain man” skills are not required. Simply place wagers on a few games based on your knowledge of sports taking into consideration form, injuries, home/away venues and prevailing weather. Remember, if you are losing, don’t throw good money after bad, this is the quickest way to get in to a hole.

Vegas Blackjack guide – Blackjack is a fairly simple game that anyone can understand in about an hour or so of practice (don’t practice at real money games!) By being consistent in your strategy you do have a good chance of making some money. It is possible to be a winner in Las Vegas. Follow these basic Blackjack strategies for about an hour and see how you get on:-

  • If the total of your hand is 9 or less always hit.
  • If you have 10 or 11 total, you should always double down and double your bet as long as your total is
more than the dealers, if not just hit.
  • If you have 12 thru 16 total, hit as long as dealers upcard is 7 or higher, stand if the dealer is showing less than 7.
  • For 17 or higher always stand, unless soft 17 (ie Ace plus 6), for soft 13 – 18 double down when the dealers upcard is a 5 or 6
  • With Soft 17 or lower always hit
  • Soft 19 always stand
  • Always split a pairs of aces or 8’s
  • Never split 4’s, 5’s or 10’s
  • Split all other pairs when dealer’s upcard is less than a 6
  • In general when winning you need to bet big, when losing be very patient

Roulette in Las Vegas is an easy game to play, even those of us who have never really gambled know the basic rules. Basically, all you do is follow the little ball until it drops in a numbered/colored slot. Remember that the house has an advantage in roulette odds and to reduce this advantage look out for Casino’s that offer single Zero tables. Avoid the sucker bets on the table such as the five number bet. Understand that Realize you won’t get rich playing roulette and in the long run you will likely lose money. The systems you hear about simply won’t work so dont obsess over them. just concentrate on having a good time and getting plenty of free alcohol!

Grand Canyon Vacation Tour from Las Vegas

HUALAPAI INDIAN RESERVATION, AZ - MARCH 7: (E...

Over 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon every year and many of these vistors use Las Vegas as a base. Being just 180 miles from the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, Vegas is an ideal location for helicopter or light aircraft Grand Canyon tours. Some of the helicopter tours even allow you to explore the Grand Canyon on foot with an optional Canyon landing. Anyone spending time in Vegas should always set aside one day to see the Grand Canyon and take a break from the neon strip.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most breathtaking sights anyone will ever see in their lifetime. Seeing the Grand Canyon by air simply amplifies the experience. Many visitors are left speechless when first appreciate the raw beauty and the power of nature.

One of the best Grand Canyon flight tours is the tour with an option to land on a plateau in the Canyon which is about 3000 feet down. Once landed you can enjoy a champagne picnic, or for the more adventurous, you can climb down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon tour operators include Gray Line Las Vegas Sightseeing Tours, Key Tours Las Vegas, Las Vegas Grand Canyon Tours and Vegas Tours. Grand Canyon tours are not restricted to air tours of course, there are a myriad of options such as horse riding tours, climbing tours, rafting tours and even tours in Hummer vehicles. For these tours however, you
would need more than one day from Las Vegas. In fact for a full exploration of the Grand Canyon you should really schedule a seperate vacation.

if you prefer to create your own tour that’s easy, many people drive to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas every year. bear in mind however it will be a long day, as although Las Vegas is only 180 miles from the Grand Canyon by air, it’s around 280 miles by road! Travelling by car can work out a lot cheaper (especially if more than one person is travelling) than coach tours, and definitely cheaper than air tours. A one day self drive tour could be done for less than $200, whereas even the cheapest air tours start at around $500 and a coach tour is around $150 per person.

The bottom line is, even though Las Vegas does have an incredible amount of amenities, attractions and shows to keep everyone occupied, you haven’t lived unless you’ve seen the Grand Canyon (especially by air). The Grand Canyon is one of those wonders where once seen, never forgotten!

Las Vegas Vacation Deals

Las Vegas

Many people beleive that the glory days of free comps like meals, drinks, hotel room upgrades and other freebies are all but gone, on the contrary, great Las Vegas vacation deals still exist – they are just a little harder to find. There are still many incredible offers available, for example I recently seen an offer for 3 days/2 nights at the Sahara hotel for just $25.00!

Ok, at that price you probably wont be offered the penthouse suite! But it will be more than acceptable considering the price. I have stayed at the Sahara many times for around $15.00 a night. Don’t bother trying to call the hotel for these rates, as they will not be available. The best room rates are to be found online. It is much easier to find great deals on a web site, they have all the information, reviews and photos you
need to make your mind up and compare hotels on a like for like basis. Feedback from previous guests of the hotels is very important and most decent sites will feature such reviews. Always read all the reviews you find, don’t be put off by a single bad review as some people are just never pleased! However if you see lots of scathing reviews about the hotel accommodation, facilities or service – then walk away!

Without a doubt the best deals are to be had by considering an all in package deal with airfare and hotel combined. There are flights to Las Vegas from many city airports throughout the U.S.A so do some research and find a great deal for flights and room in one low price.

Another method of finding great deals is the worlds biggest auction site, eBay! It is possible to find packages and deals on rental cars, air fares, travel accessories, cruises and just about anything  travel related. Some of these packages will be from travel agents operating an eBay store, but some will be from consumers who for one reason or another, cannot use the package they have already booked and paid for. This is a win-win situation for all, they get to recoup some of the money they paid on their vacation, you get a dirt cheap package deal!

Remember that there still plenty of Las Vegas vacation deals online, you just need to look a little harder for them, an extra few minutes spent doing some research online could sdave you hundreds of Dollars!

Las Vegas is the city of entertainment, the world capital of fun! It is a plush resort with professional staff and caters to  all classes. For romantic breaks Las vegas is ideal, they really understand the need for privacy in this town. Many of the Las Vegas resorts have a tendency to give better treatment and perks for romantic couples on vacation.

The first place to start is by choosing your hotel, you could go for a unique and charming smaller hotel, but bear in mind even the chain hotels have arrangements in place specifically to satisfy romantic couples. For instance the Ritz Carlton Lake Las Vegas offers great intimacy with private patio and indoor swimming pool, mini-bar and your own kitchenette so you can close yourself off to the world if you desire.

The Four Seasons Las Vegas hotel is another venue that has a built in infrastructure to cater for your needs. With complimentary flowers, atmospheric rooms, classic furnishing and large king size beds! The Four Seasons is very popular with honeymoon couples.

The famous Mandalay Bay Hotel is another possibility for the romantic couple with elegant room views, capable and discreet room service and private zones for yourself in the courtyard and hotel.

When it comes to romantic Las Vegas travel packages you are literally spoilt for choice. For days (or nights) out, how about a romantic Gondola ride at the Venetian, or a scary 3D movie at the Imax, and of course relaxing down at the beautiful Topaz Lake. For the more daring of couples there is also the famous Las vegas nudist beach!

Romantic candle-lit dinners are available on request at virtually all venues in Vegas and the food is reasonably priced and delicious in all the restaurants and bars. The only problem you will have when choosingn a romantic vacation in Las vegas is coming to terms with the fact that you will not really be able to see or experience the vast majority of this resort in a single trip, the choices for entertainment, accommodation, food and wine, casinos and attractions are almost endless!
