Las vegas has gone through a complete transformation over the last two decades, no longer the sleazy, seedy habitat of gamblers and all night partying. Vegas is now a resort well equipped for family vacations, with plenty of amenities including adventure parks, museums and natural attractions. Many visitors spend their complete vacations in Vegas without hitting the casino’s at all ( actually most will spend at least some time gambling if only to say they have gambled in vegas!)
However many hotels still cater for mainly singles or couples looking for a hedonistic break, so which hotels are particularly family friendly, especially when it comes to the hotel pools? The top 3 hotels for families are probably the Monte Carlo, MGM Grand and The Mirage.
The MGM Grand has an incredible pool complex that will be an instant hit with the whole family. An exotic paradise spread over 6 acres with lush flowers and greenery, 5 swimming pools, 3 whirlpools, bubbling fountains, a river, a small island and a shallow Lagoon with waterfall which makes a perfect wading pool for small children. Tubes and rafts are available for hire to allow you to float down the river. The pool is located through the promenade shopping complex and is just a short walk from the elevators.
The Monte Carlo pool is smaller than the Grand (but not small by any normal standard), but still offers 3 swimming pools, a whirlpool and a dedicated kids pool. The kiddie pool is fully enclosed with kids beach chairs. TOne of the swimming pools is a wave pool that has 3ft waves and is a fun experience for the whole family. The Lagoon pool is a quiet and relaxing pool with it’s own waterfall. There is also a 400 feet river ride with tube rental available inside their beach shop.
The Mirage has a series of pools inter-connected by bridges and lagoons with a series of cascading waterfalls in a lush, tropical environmet (unfortunately the waterslide at the Mirage has been closed down). The Mirage offers raft rental at good rates and complimentary life jackets for children.
Any of these hotels will allow the kids to have fun and the family to relax and cool off – in perfect safety and in beautiful surroundings. These pool complexes enable you to have a rest day after all the hustle and bustle of thrill rides and trips to major attractions and best of all, relaxing by the pool watching the kids playing in the waterfalls and waves is completely free!
The Mirage hotel in Las Vegas is one of those htoels where you can say to yourself – OMG I could spend the whole vacation here without ever having to leave the hotel! Built back in 1989, with over 3000 guest rooms. Even amongst the exclusive collection of hotels along the strip in Las Vegas the Mirage is right up there with the very best Vegas has to offer.
Amentities include everything you can think of – plus some you probably can’t! Casino, Swimming Pool, Fitness Center, Spa, DVD/VCR, Barber/Hair Stylist, Conference Facilities, Broadband Access in room, Restaurants, Concierge Services and Uniformed Security on Site. All 3000+ rooms feature Air Conditioning, Refrigerator, Iron, Direct Dial Telephone, TV with cable/satellite, Safe, Whirlpool bath and Mini-Bar.
Located right in the heart of the vibrant Las Vegas strip, the Mirage Las Vegas hotel complex is close to all the sights you will wish to see. So if you do decide to leave the hotel complex, all the other incredible Vegas attractions are within walking distance.
One of the most amazing features of the Mirage is the exotic animal habitat which includes Siberian white tigers, white lions, leopards, panthers and a 20,000 gallon aquarium.
The atrium of the Mirage Las Vegas is designed as an indoor rainforest with 60-foot palm trees, lush tropical flowers and glorious indoor waterfalls. There are restaurants, bars, lounges and entertainment to suit all interests such as numerous shopping boutiques and even an adults only “Bare Pool” with it’s own D.J. and full V.I.P. treatment.
Be sure to catch the at Just outside the Mirage is the famous erupting volcano. A stunning visual display of volcanic eruptions complete with a world-class soundtrack.
If you like everything under one roof, the Mirage Las Vegas is the hotel for you. Even if you eventually get bored with the offerings at the Mirage, everything else you’ll want to see and experience is within walking distance, so the Mirage comes out on top either way.
The Casino Royale is located right in the heart of the strip on Las Vegas Boulevard, in between Harrah’s and the Venetian next to a McDonalds and right across the street from the Mirage hotel. All rooms are triple AAA rated and non smoking (essential in Las Vegas if you are a non smoker as smoking in public rooms/areas is still permitted in Vegas). Rooms and suites are all finished to a high standard with a good range of standard services and amenities such as free parking, two queen size or one king sizebeds, free local calls from room telephone, free cable TV (including HBO), large flat widescreen Tv (36″), safe, hair dryer, coffee maker and refridgerator.
Rooms at the Casino Royale are great value, especially if you choose a mid-weeek break and take advantage of any offers or promotions you can find, we got a room rate of just $29 per night with full facilities!
The Casino Royale has several restaurants and bars providing a wide range of food including, the Outback Steakhouse, a Denny’s, Noble Roman’s fast food pizza, a Subway and even a Ben and Jerry’s (essential to cool down in the Vegas heat!)
The “Value” theme also extends to the bars at the Casino Royale with many drinks, including a range of beers and Margaritas costing just $1. The Casino Royale is probably the cheapest place on the srtip to drink – assuming you are not gambling and getting free comp drinks of course!
If you like peace and quiet in your room we would suggest asking for a room at the North side of the hotel (facing away from the strip) as it can get noisy, particularly at weekends as the Royale is a small hotel (by Las Vegas standards).
Don’t worry about any bad reviews you may have read online about the Casino Royale, previously the hotel was criticised for smokey rooms and shabby furnishings, but the hotel has been completely remodelled recently and all rooms have been non-smoking since then with smoking only permitted in the Casino area.
